BORONGAN CITY (PIA) – More than a hundred individuals participated in the Thanksgiving Caravan on April 28, in Palapag, Northern Samar, close to the Simora bridge, as a sign of appreciation for the Samar Pacific Coastal Road's impending completion, according to the Samar Island Partnership for Peace Development (SIPPAD).
Prior to the caravan, a Thanksgiving mass was celebrated by Bishop Emmanuel Trance of Catarman, Bishop Crispin of Borongan City, ad other ministers at the Palapag Church.
Bishop Crispin Varquez of the Diocese of Borongan said in his homily that the church works with the government to promote peace and prosperity.
According to the bishop, SIPPAD is requesting that the project be finished because they believe it will help the people of Samar Island escape poverty.
The Samar Pacific Coastal Road Project, funded by the Korean Economic Development Cooperation Fund, started in 2018, and is anticipated to be completed by the end of June, then inaugurated in August of this year.
The project is composed of 11.60 kilometers of concrete road and three bridges. The road starts at Simora Junction and links the barangays of Laoang, Palapag, and Lapinig, greatly benefiting the farmers of the said barangays.
The newly-paved road also offered a faster and more convenient trip for people travelling from the East to the North, and vice versa. (MMP/SDC/PIA E. Samar with Janica Ivy Anacta/ESSU Intern)
