MAASIN CITY (PIA) -- The Social Security System (SSS) made the rounds in this city, Friday, April 28, visiting a sampling of five (5) business establishments that fell short of remitting premium contributions of their empoyees for quite some time.
The unannounced operation, called Relief Afforded to Challenged Employers (previously Run After Contribution Evaders) or RACE, was led by Mario Corro, SSS vice president for Visayas Central 2, along with Maasin Branch Manager Gregorio Baroza, and some personnel.
Owners or caretakers of at least five business concerns in the city that included rice retailing, hardware, a resort, food house, and learning center were courteously approached and told to settle their long overdue contribution payments through various offered options, otherwise they may face legal sanctions for continued non-compliance.
In a brief interview at the SSS-Maasin office shortly before going out to meet with delinquent employers, Corro said the activity was SSS’ contribution for the Labor Day celebration on May 1, a way to let laborers feel their contributions to the state pension firm was safeguarded.
About 150 branch offices across the country simultaneously held RACE operations on Friday, Corro also said.
RACE was also an awareness campaign, for the moment news on the sampling of visited employers spread, the others who are similarly situated can be warned, he added.
Last year delinquent accounts within SSS-Maasin area coverage totaled P4.6 million, and after the RACE was done, some P1.6 million was collected, said Branch Manager Baroza, and counting. (LDL/MMP with a report by Chinny Jorban, MCNHS student intern/PIA Southern Leyte)
