SOGOD, Southern Leyte (PIA) -- Some six (6) business establishments in this municipality became the target of the Run After Contribution Evaders (RACE) operation spearheaded by the Social Security System (SSS)-Maasin City Branch, Monday, May 22.

They included a restaurant, an eatery, a parlor, an electrical and general merchandise stores, and a hotel, with delinquencies by way of non-remittance on SSS premiums of their respective employees for several months already.

The RACE team led by Mario Corro, SSS vice president for Visayas, Central 2, along with Gregorio Baroza, SSS-Maasin manager, and some personnel, approached the owners of the mentioned businesses, telling them to settle unpaid accounts within the next 15 days.

The owners signed and received the order, and vowed to comply as per instruction despite expressing excuses like putting the blame on the bookkeeper for not updating the payment, among others.

Such alibis are commonly heard but these cannot be made as justifications in their delinquencies, compromising the welfare and benefits due of employees under them, SSS information officer Oliver Fernandez clarified.

This was the second time a RACE operation for a sampling of non-compliant businesses in Sogod was carried out, the first was in July last year. (LDL/MMP/PIA Southern Leyte)
