TACLOBAN CITY (PIA) -- As the Social Security System Tacloban branch continued its Run After Contribution Evaders or RACE campaign, five (5) business establishments in Leyte were issued show cause orders on Monday, June 19, to remind employers to settle their SSS legal obligations within 15 days from receipt of such order.

The non-compliant employers are composed of a sari-sari store, aluminium and glass supply in Dulag, Leyte and a pharmacy, security agency, and ice plant in Tacloban City.

The RACE team led by SSS Tacloban Branch Head, Dr. Lilibeth Cajucom, together with SSS Vice-President Mario Corro of the Visayas Central II Division, SSS Commissioner Jose Julio, Atty. Raul Cinco of Mindanao North Legal Department and other SSS officials and media representatives who visited the five establishments that have failed to remit their employees’ premium contributions.

During the press briefing, Cajucom said the SSS needs to collect around P200,000 from the five business establishments that were targeted in said RACE campaign.

Meanwhile, Cinco said the purpose of the RACE is, as much as possible, to generate public awareness, to improve the level of compliance, increase collection efficiency, to establish collaboration with government and private entities, and to disseminate and implement the rules and regulations as well as the plans and programs of the management.

“We are doing this not to put them to jail right away but this is a way of urging the employers to fulfill their legal obligations to their employees. However, if they are hardheaded, we have no recourse but to file a case against them in court but that is the last recourse,” Cinco added.

“The RACE campaign is a manifestation of the agency’s sincere service to provide employees or members’ satisfaction,” Commissioner Julio said.

Following its RACE campaign in Dulag and Tacloban City in Leyte, the team went also to Paranas and Calbiga, Samar where they visited eight establishments. (MMP/CBA/PIA-8)
