SOGOD, Southern Leyte (PIA) -- The lone distributor of electricity in the province is gearing up to install extended power lines for a missionary mission to light up remote homes in a project subsidized by the government through the National Electrification Administration (NEA).
Some 10 sitios in remote, upland barangays all throughout the province are scheduled to be lighted within this year by the Southern Leyte Electric Cooperative (SOLECO) under the Sitio Electrification Program (SEP), in which more than a hundred dispersed, distanced households stand to benefit.
According to Allan Ferrer, member development officer of SOLECO, this was still under the 2021 SEP with an appropriation of P11 million, in which about P8 million will be for extension of electric lines and the rest for house wiring materials that are to be given free to identified, qualified beneficiaries.
The recipient sitios are located in upland, interior barangays in Maasin City, Bontoc, Libagon, Hinunangan, and San Ricardo municipalities, Ferrer reported.
Under the SEP, drop wires connected from newly put-up electric posts as well as complete house wiring gadgets are freely provided, but the concerned consumer will be the one responsible to pay for the monthly bill.
Another set of 20 sitios is up for power connection this year, but recipients are still to be identified, Ferrer said during a meeting of the Multi-Sectoral Electricity Advisory Council over the weekend in Sogod.
