BORONGAN CITY (PIA) -- Sen. Imee Marcos graced the 60th Commencement Exercises of the Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) - Borongan Campus as guest speaker for the 864 graduands on June 3, at the Canuctan Hall, ESSU.
In her speech, Senator Marcos congratulated the recent licensure examinations topnotchers produced by ESSU, noting the University as one of the leading institutions in Region 8.
"I commend the University today for not merely consolidating its five campuses, not merely enlarging its curriculum, but better yet, for now being known as a national champion in many aspects," the senator said.
With its five campuses scattered all over the province, ESSU has been producing topnotchers in various licensure examinations for several years now.
Last year, Felipe Jimenez topped the September 2022 Registered Electrical Engineer Examination; Rhea Mae Baillo ranked 6th in the October 2022 Licensure Examination for Teachers; and just recently, Michael Lejanio ranked 9th in the Criminology Licensure Examination.
Marcos also congratulated the parents, faculty, and staff of the university who served as inspirations and guiding light of the long and arduous journey of the graduands.
"I believe that you take pride in this new batch of extraordinary graduates, and it's a joy that finally we see the formation of so much sacrifice and effort from our parents.
She also mentioned that the 'stars of the show' on that day are the graduates who managed to finish their courses in these exceptionally difficult times.
"Difficult times indeed but you never gave up, with your extraordinary determination and steadfastness that is why you are here today, congratulations," the presidential sister said.
Marcos closed her message by encouraging the graduates to look forward to the future by bringing with them the knowledge and wisdom that they learned from the university and to envision ticking off Eastern Samar from the list of the poorest provinces in the country.
Also present were House Minority Leader and 4Ps Party-list Rep. Marcelino Libanan, Rep. Maria Fe Abunda, Gov. Ben P. Evardone, Mayor Dayan Agda, University President Andres Pagatpatan, and key officials of the province and the university. (MMP/VTG/PIA-E. Samar)
