TACLOBAN CITY (PIA) – The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Thursday has officially opened its new extension office in Eastern Visayas located at the second floor of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Regional Office VIII building, Government Center, Palo, Leyte.
The blessing and opening of the new Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) office was graced by no less than SEC Chairperson Emilio B. Aquino and the SEC Commissioners.
In his message, Aquino has assured the public that the office is now ready to serve its constituents particularly in addressing the business registration needs and investment activities of the people in Eastern Visayas.
“Let me mention that this will cover Leyte, Biliran, Samar, Eastern Samar and Northern Samar for purposes of registering corporations as well as partnerships and associations and of course, that will allow compliance with our regulatory requirements,” Aquino said.
The SEC Tacloban Extension Office will serve as a gateway to doing business in Eastern Visayas and at same time will bring capital market closer to the region.
“Today, we are not only celebrating the inauguration of the SEC Tacloban Office, but we are also ushering in an even more conducive and more robust environment for business and investment in Eastern Visayas,” Aquino added.
Meanwhile, Meylene Rosales, regional director of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) expressed her appreciation to the SEC officials for favorably responding to the call of the business sector in the region.
“We are honored and happy that SEC heeded our call to have a SEC office here in Region 8 which is an indication that SEC recognizes the potential of Eastern Visayas because we really have so much to offer,” Rosales said.
The opening of the new SEC extension office will bring the services of SEC closer to the people particularly to the investors, the businesses, and other stakeholders.
With this, investors will no longer need to travel to the nearest extension office in Cebu or even in Manila.
Previously, companies had to travel to Cebu to process their papers or documents to avail of the services of the SEC.
meanwhile, Leyte Governor Carlos Jericho L. Petilla expressed his gratitude to the SEC officals for opening an office in Leyte as it will boost the business potential of the region.
The establishment of a new extension office in the region was made possible following the recommendation of House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and an official endorsement of the Regional Development Council (RDC) in Eastern Visayas through RDC Resolution Number 110 series of 2021.
This is the fourth extension office in the Visayas Region and the 10th in the country.
As of May 2023, a total of 10,456 corporations in Eastern Visayas are registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission. (MMP/CBA/PIA-8)
