BORONGAN CITY (PIA) -- The Philippine Statistics Authority has officially launched the Civil Registration System (CRS) Outlet in Borongan on March 29.

PSA Statistician and Civil Registrar General, Undersecretary Claire Dennis S. Mapa, who led the opening ceremony, said they strived hard to put up a CRS branch in Borongan City to help ease the burden of the people in obtaining legal documents from PSA.

“CRS is very important to me, not just the outlet operation, but of course, the other concerns of CRS, the document, because we need to, as part of our commitment, we need to provide the proof of identity to all Filipinos, that is the basic and fundamental document,” the Undersecretary said.

According to Betchewell L. Matienzo, Registration Officer II of the Civil Registration and Central Support Office of CRS, the said outlet in Borongan is the 27th Information Technology Project (ITP) 2 in the whole country, with an online access feature to the CRS data repository, allowing a faster process and release of the documents.

With the advanced technology used in the CRS-ITP2, documents such as birth, marriage, and death certificates can now be obtained in just about an hour. The PSA also bared that it now has an online platform wherein the above-mentioned documents can be viewable online including the Certificate of No Death or CENODEATH, a new type of legal document.

In his speech during the launching, Borongan City Mayor Jose Agda expressed his gratitude to PSA and to Unisys, the private partner of the PSA in the said project, for bringing this government service closer not only to Boronganons but to all Samareños as well.

With the opening of the CRS-ITP2 Outlet in the city, Samareños no longer need to travel to Tacloban City to furnish an authenticated copy of their CRS documents. Hence, Mayor Agda hoped that the opening of CRS Borongan will help promote local tourism and boost the economy of Borongan.

Mayor Agda ended his talk by leaving a message of reassurance to all Samareños that they would be treated with utmost respect and hospitality whenever they visit Borongan, especially for the purposes of seeking documents in the CRS Outlet.
