By Marcelo Pedalino SAINT BERNARD, Southern Leyte (PIA) -- Members of the provincial board in Southern Leyte extended last week cash assistance to at least 10 piggery owners of this town whose animals were badly hit by the African Swine Fever (ASF).
Ina Marie Loy, who headed the councilors’ league of the province, along with Sangguniang Panlalawigan members Myra Rentuza and Rolando Bacoy, chairperson of the SP Committee on Agriculture, Food, and Rural Development, met with the hog owners to personally deliver the indemnification payout budgeted by the province.
They were joined in by Provincial Veterinary Services Office (PVSO) head, Dr. Francisco Cabarrubias, and Jupiter Delalamon, disbursing officer at the Provincial Treasurer’s Ofice.
It was learned that each affected hog raiser or owner received P4,000 to P21,000 financial assistance.
The amount disbursed was dependent on the number of hogs culled at the height of the ASF infestation last year, the culling seen as a way to stop the spread of the ASF virus and in compliance with the Department of Agriculture protocol.
Saint Bernard Mayor Edito Mulig stood as witness during the conduct of the payout. (MMP/PIA Southern Leyte with Provincial Social Media Bureau and Yna Grace Saavedra, MNHS intern)
