TACLOBAN CITY (PIA) -- The Police Regional Office in Eastern Visayas (PRO-8) has initiated transport assistance to commuters in the region who may be affected by the nationwide transport strike starting Monday, March 6, by mobilizing all of its available transport assets through the “Libreng Sakay” to ferry passengers to their destinations.
Police Brigadier General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, PRO-8 regional director, said despite the assurance from various local transport groups that they will not join the nationwide transport strike, the PNP has already prepared for any eventualities.
“We will continuously monitor for any possible changes and disturbances as well as provide assistance to the public,” Marbil said.
The Police Regional Office 8 has conducted a meeting at the PRO-8 conference room on March 2 presided by Police Colonel Salvador T. Alacyang, deputy regional director for operations, where they discussed interventions on the planned transport strike in the region.
The meeting was attended by the provincial directors and other concerned units.
In Tacloban City, the pick-up point will be at New Bus Terminal, Abucay, Tacloban City going to Barangay Campetic Palo Leyte and vice versa starting at 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. of March 6.
The nationwide weeklong transport strike was announced by various transport groups in the country who oppose the transport modernization program of the government. (MMP/CBA with reports from PRO8)
