TACLOBAN CITY (PIA) -- Police Brigadier General Vincent S. Calanoga, regional director of the Police Regional Office 8, has commended the efforts of his personnel following a successful buy bust operation in Brgy. Tambulilid, Ormoc City, that resulted to the seizure of P10.2 million worth of shabu with an estimated weight of more or less 1.5 kilograms from a high value individual (HVI).
“We continue to be persistent in our campaign against illegal drugs to protect the rights and freedom of all. Had this huge amount of drugs been sold and distributed in the communities, it would have compromised the future of our youth and peace of our communities,” Calanoga said.
Reports from Police Regional Office 8 disclosed that on Monday, May 15, the joint operatives of the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit, together with the Ormoc City Police Office and Ormoc City Mobile Force Company successfully neutralized a certain Allan L. Bulahan, listed as HVI of the Police Regional Office 8, in a buy-bust operation when a poseur-buyer was able to purchase four (4) pieces of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing white crystalline substance suspected as “shabu.”
However, when the suspect sensed the approaching police operatives, he immediately drew his firearm and fired prompting the team to defend themselves that resulted to an armed encounter.
The suspect, who sustained gunshot wounds, was rushed to Ormoc District Hospital for medical intervention but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.
During the search and inventory conducted by the Regional Forensic Unit (RFU) 8 team at the crime scene, the following items were also seized: one (1) unit pistol of unknown caliber with one (1) magazine loaded containing one (1) live ammunition; 12 pieces of assorted fired cartridges; 21 heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing white crystalline substance suspected as shabu; one (1) ziplock bag containing another substance suspected as shabu and other drug paraphernalia.
In addition, when the same team conducted the physical search and paraffin casting on the suspect, they also recovered seven (7) pieces of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets containing substance suspected as shabu; identification documents of the suspects and some personal belongings.
Overall, the drug items confiscated by the police weighed more or less 1.5 kilograms with an estimated value of P10,200,000. (MMP/CBA with PRO-8)
