TACLOBAN CITY (PIA) -- After 19 years of hiding, a 43-year-old escapee from Eastern Samar Provincial Jail in Borongan City was successfully rearrested on Wednesday, February 1 in Caloocan City.
This developed after an intensified manhunt operation and joint intelligence research from the operatives of the National Detection and Intelligence Team, Regional Intelligence Unit-National Capital Region, Regional Intelligence Division, National Capital Region Police Office, District Special Operations Unit (DSOU) Northern Police District (NPD), Eastern Samar Police Provincial Office and Can-Avid Municipal Police Station.
Reports from the headquarters of the Police Regional Office 8 identified the escapee as Aldwin Rivera, a native of Can-Avid, Eastern Samar, but already residing in Barangay 50, Caloocan City.
The fugitive reportedly took refuge with the so-called Legaspi Criminal Group, a gang allegedly involved in series of carnapping incidents in Metro Manila where, according to police, he was sighted in the area placing him under surveillance.
According to PRO-8, Rivera was immediately informed on the cause of his arrest in a language he understood but opted to remain silent.
Following his arrest, the escapee was brought to Caloocan City Medical Center for physical and medical examination.
He will be turned over to the court of origin after proper documentation at DSOU NPD where he is under custody.
Rivera was previously arrested in April 2003 in Brgy. Balud 1, Borongan City, Eastern Samar on charges of violation of Section 11 and 12 of Republic Act 9165.
Police Brigadier General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, regional director of the Police Regional Office 8, lauded the relentless efforts of the arresting operatives through their intensified intelligence and police operation that led to the successful capture of the escapee.
“We are doing our best to prevent convicted individuals from evading prosecution, and they must face serious consequences for their crimes,” Marbil said. (MMP/CBA with reports from PRO8)
