PALO, LEYTE (PIA) -- Police General Rodolfo S. Azurin Jr., chief of the Philippine National Police lauded the Task Force Maharlika in Eastern Visayas after it scored anew on its campaign against illegal drugs following the arrest of three individuals in a checkpoint at Maharlika Highway, Barangay Jubasan, Allen Northern Samar on Tuesday, March 28.
The three arrested individuals were allegedly transporting illegal drugs with an estimated value of more or less P7 million.
During his command visit at Camp Kangleon, Palo Leyte on March 28, Azurin commended the joint operating teams of law enforcers in the region for their efforts and collaboration that led to the successful arrest of the three men and recovery of an alleged carnapped vehicle used to deliver the illegal drugs.
“We congratulate the joint efforts of our PNP Highway Patrol Group and of course ang ating Police Regional Office 8, nakikita natin yung collaboration, yung partnership ng ating mga kapulisan dito. Sila ay nagtutulong-tulong para ma-intercept lahat ng contraband na tumatawid from Bicol going to Region 8 papunta somewhere in Mindanao,” Azurin said.
With this incident, the official said that Region 8 is being used as transhipment of illegal things.
The team was composed of the Northern Samar Oplan Maharlika led by Police Staff Sergeant Rodel Labine; Allen Municipal Police Station/Northern Samar Police Station led by Police Lieutenant Thom Alexis D. Manlangit; Highway Patrol Group in Northern Samar led by Police Staff Sergeant Ritchie Anthony C. Catucod; Coast Guard Station Northern Samar led by Ensign Michael U. Tuyay; CIDG Northern Samar led by Police Captain Juan Carlos S. Recluta; and Philippine Coast Guard-K9 field operating unit led by Police Officer 2 Bernie S. Madrid Jr.
Based on the report of the Police Regional Office 8, the operating team who conducted an ocular checkpoint in said area was able to recover from the suspects a Toyota Vios vehicle and 10 packs of white crystalline substance suspected to be shabu placed inside a plastic transparent sachet of a brown sling bag.
Police authorities identified the suspects as Jabbar Angni Azis, 29 years old, a resident of Munai, Lanao del Norte; Aminollah Moti H. Mohammad, 43 years old, a resident of Pantao, Ragat, Lanao del Norte; and Amenodeh Agu Mamao, 32 years old and a resident of P-7 Victory Norte, Santiago City, Isabela.
The suspects who are all from Mindanao were turned over to the Allen Municipal Police Station for proper disposition.
The activation of Task Force Maharlika was conceptualized by Police Brigadier Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, regional director of the Police Regional Office 8, in order to prevent crimes and intercept the flow of illegal drugs from Luzon to Mindanao or vice versa. (MMP/CBA/PIA-8)
