MAASIN CITY (PIA) -- The local government unit of Southern Leyte has thrown its full support to an upcoming provincewide gathering of information officers (IOs) from the different municipalities and city, including IOs from national line agencies, and some private media practitioners.
This developed after the Sangguniang Panlalawigan signed last month the release of P100,000 through a resolution and approved by Gov. Damian Mercado for the conduct of Communicators Training Workshop (CTW) spearheaded by the Philippine Information Agency – Southern Leyte Provincial Information Center.
Also extending their support to the planned activity are the two Congressional representatives in the province, Rep. Luz Mercado for the first district, and Rep. Christopherson Yap of the second district.
The CTW, which will be held either in March or April, will put under one roof designated and permanent information officers, each one coming from LGUs, including the provincial government, from national government agencies, and from members of the Associated Media of Southern Leyte (AMSL), a group of working journalists from the private and public sector.
The move was also in direct response to one of the main thrusts of the Marcos administration, which is to bring relevant, timely information down to the grassroots level through a network of active information officers.
Local updates from their end will also be disseminated through platforms the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) regularly maintain such as posting of updates at the PIA Facebook Page.
Straight news items and feature stories from these local sources may also be produced for the PIA website (www.pia.gov.ph) that will usually be picked up by private print publications, and released as radio broadcasts to three local radio stations, DYDM and DYAS in Maasin City, and at Radyo Pilipinas - Sogod in Sogod town.
Participants are expected to learn the basics of development communication, what it is all about and its application in social media posts, as well as taking good pictures through mobile photography, with expert speakers from PIA and the province. (LDL/MMP/PIA Southern Leyte)
