BORONGAN CITY (PIA) -- The Provincial Government of Eastern Samar through the initiative of Gov. Ben P. Evardone hired 1,080 Provincial Paid Teachers (PPTs) under the Learning Facilitators Program of the province to assist children's learning in school.
According to Governor Evardone, this is their way of supporting the learning continuity program of the Department of Education (DepEd) amid the health crisis since 2020.
"These teacher-facilitators will serve as tutors for pupils and students to better understand the learning materials," Evardone said.
He disclosed the PLGU allotted some P30-M for these services and each of them would receive a daily wage of P300 and would be required to work for three days per week until April this year.
The contract of their services started in February 2023.
Meanwhile, Focal Person Emmanuel A. Arago said that these learning facilitators were already deployed to augment teaching staff of the Eastern Samar Schools Division and Borongan City Division.
Arago added that they will be assigned to the different areas especially the far-flung barangays of Eastern Samar.
The focal person further said learning facilitators were oriented by the PLGU and DepEd through the Eastern Samar Schools Division and Borongan City Division before they were deployed.
"These are licensed teachers and non-licensed teachers who will be handling learners in primary, elementary and secondary schools, depending on their major of specialization," Arago said.
The PPTs were assigned in the 22 municipalities and one City as follows: Borongan - 130; San-Julian - 30; Sulat - 40; Taft - 50; Can-avid - 60; Dolores - 80; Oras - 6; San-Policarpo - 30; Arteche - 40; Jipapad - 30; and Maslog - 20; Guiuan - 110; Mercedes - 30; Salcedo - 60; Lawaan - 40; Balangiga - 40; Giporlos - 40; Quinapondan - 30; Gen. Mac-Arthur - 30; Hernani - 30; Llorente - 40; Balangkayan - 30; and Maydolong - 30.
Based on the agreement between the PLGU and DepEd, the three months stint of the teacher facilitators who are not yet licensed teachers will earn them service credits they would need when they apply for a regular teaching position.
Last year, the Provincial Government hired 1,200 PPTs. This is the third time that the provincial government initiated the said program since 2020.
This effort of the provincial government was lauded by the DepEd-8. (MMP/SDC/PIA E. Samar)
