BORONGAN CITY (PIA) -- The Provincial Government of Eastern Samar distributed a total of P67 million to rice farmers under the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF) – Rice Farmers Financial Assistance Program of the Department of Agriculture.
In an interview with local media on March 16, Eastern Samar Provincial Agriculturist Virgilio Capon said an amount of P55-M has already been distributed to more than 11,000 recipients last year.
"The Provincial Agriculture is already done with the first tranche distribution of P12-M to more than 2,400 recipients this year," he added.
The provincial agriculturist further revealed that the said financial assistance amounting to P5,000 per recipient can be availed by rice farm owners, tenants, and laborers involved in rice production.
He further disclosed that rice farmers as well as fisherfolks can avail of the said assistance by visiting their municipal or city agriculture offices and registering under the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA).
Aside from the financial assistance, the Department of Agriculture is also utilizing its P10-B annual fund to boost the agricultural sector in the country by providing assistance to the farmers through rice farm machinery, rice seed distribution, and expanded rice credit assistance among many other programs.
The RCEF is an offshoot of the Republic Act 11203 or the Rice Tariffication Law which aims to ensure food security and make the country's agriculture sector viable, efficient, and globally competitive. (MMP/SDC/PIA Eastern Samar with Jeric Carpina/ESSU Intern)
