BORONGAN CITY (PIA) -- Information officers from the national government agencies, local government units and the media partners in Eastern Samar convened for the Communication Network (ComNet) Meeting on Thursday, April 27.

The activity was spearheaded by the Philippine Information Agency – Eastern Samar in partnership with the Provincial Government of Eastern Samar held at the PGO Conference Hall, Provincial Capitol, this city.

PIA Regional Head Cheryl Amor discussed the importance of the role played by information officers in national government agencies (NGAs) and local government units (LGUs), saying these IOs serve as the alter-egos of their leaders in dealing with the public.

The regional director also pointed out the responsibility that comes with being an information officer.

“You are lucky to be selected or appointed, to be given the responsibility. Sabi nga ni Spiderman, 'With great power comes great responsibility' and information means power,” the regional head said.

In support of PIA’s effort to deliver accurate and unbiased information to the public, Eastern Samar Governor Ben P. Evardone backed the ComNet Meeting by hosting the said event at the PGO Conference Hall.

In his message conveyed by PGO media bureau chief Phres Evardone, the governor highlighted the importance of accurate and relevant information in today's age of online communication.

The governor, who was a former journalist, believed that through the ComNet Meeting, not only fair information but also government services and programs for all can be brought closer to the public, especially in distant places.

Meanwhile, PIA-8 Deputy Regional Head Leonilo Lopido shared the communication plan of the agency, one of which will be a training workshop on news and feature writing, photo jurnalism, layouting, and social media management.

Samuel Candido, InfoCen Manager of PIA Eastern Samar, conveyed his gratitude to the guests, participants, and the provincial government, noting Gov. Evardone’s strong support of the agency’s fight against misinformation and disinformation.

Around 60 information officers from the national government agencies and local government units and media partners in Eastern Samar attended the said communication network meeting. (MMP/VTG/PIA E. Samar)
