TACLOBAN CITY (PIA) – Police Brigadier General Vincent S. Calanoga has assumed as the new regional director of the Police Regional Office in Eastern Visayas (PRO-8) on Saturday, May 6, replacing PBGen. Rommel Francisco D. Marbil who will be assigned as Officer-in-Charge of the Directorate for Comptrollership at the Philippine National Police (PNP) headquarters.

The turnover ceremony was held at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Camp Kangleon, Palo, Leyte with Police Lieutenant General Patrick T. Villacorte, commander of the Area Police Command Visayas, as the guest of honor and speaker.

PBGen. Calanoga was previously assigned as head of the PNP Human Rights Affairs Office before his assignment in the region.

In an interview, Calanoga assured the men and women of PRO-8 that he has no plans yet to implement a revamp or reshuffle of his men.

“No, not in the near future kasi sabi ko nga tiwala ako sa kanila so walang mangyayaring reshuffle o revamp until such time na magkaroon tayo ng evaluation ng performance. So, 'pag mayroon tayong nakitang nagkulang, pwede nating tulungan para ma-improve ang kanyang performance … pero kung hindi siya maka-cope up, hindi maigi yung expectation, yung nararapat para sa bayan, then that’s the time na pag-aralan natin kung pwede silang ilipat or i-submit natin for training,” Calanoga said.

However, Calanoga has a marching order to the men and women under his command.

“Yun po meron po tayong mission. Alam mo ang pulis hindi po nila kailangan ang instruction o directive or order, maliwanag po sa mission statement ng PNP, yun lang po ang sundin natin -- law enforcement, peace and order, public safety and internal security. Yun lang po ang tututukan nila so meron po tayong batas dapat po ang pulis ang batayan ng trabaho ay ang batas natin,” Calanoga said.

As he assumed his post, Calanoga gives a 100% trust to his men and women as he urged them to do their job as police officers and human rights duty bearer or defender.

Meanwhile, Marbil, who served as PRO-8 director for nine months, has expressed his gratitude to the local chief executives and the residents of Eastern Visayas.

”Nagpapasalamat po ako sa inyo, sa community po natin at local executives for trusting and helping the police in their work,” Marbil said.

Marbil has been instrumental in the establishment of the Task Force Maharlika in the region where police operatives secure the stretch of the national highway from Allen, Northern Samar to San Ricardo, Southern Leyte.

The task force serves to prevent crimes in the highway as well as the flow of illegal drugs in the region.

Among those who witnessed the turnover ceremony were PBGen. Elizalde C. Quiboyen, director of the Regional Internal Affairs Service; Tacloban City Mayor Alfred S. Romualdez, chairmanperson of the Regional Peace and Order Council in Region 8; DILG-8 Regional Director Arnel Agabe; NICA-8 Rregional Director Eustacio Bacabac; other regional heads and representatives of various agencies.

Calanoga is an alumnus of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) “Tagapagkalinga” Class of 1991. (MMP/CBA/PIA-8)
