MAASIN CITY (PIA) -- The tourism office in this city is earnestly pursuing at least three projects that promises to be a sure magnet for visitors to come to the city for rest, recreation, sight seeing, and, what’s more, to seal for good a strong feeling of affection especially the love struck ones.

These are the construction of Maasin City Tourist Center and Rest Area at the bus terminal, construction of comfort rooms at the Cagnituan Falls and Guinsohotan Cave in Brgy. Cagnituan, an interior place frequented by nature lovers, and the creation of Ajonay Love Locks Project at the Bayview Park in Brgy. Combado.

The three projects which are expected to roll off this year have a total budget of P80 million, according to City Tourism Officer Pina Luz Abrea in a recent interview with the Philippine Information Agency Southern Leyte.

The money was originally intended for the Danao Forest Park project to build food stalls, camping sites, for games and other facilities but was re-aligned when the place was hit by Typhoon Odette and thus had to be rehabilitated first, Abrea shared.

The Maasin City Tourist Center project is a P10 million, two-storey building featuring a coffe shop, Pasalubong display, air-conditioned comfort rooms that can accommodate PWDs, permanent location of the City Tourism Office, and a conference room for investors and visitors.

In Brgy. Cagnituan, particularly the site of its falls and caves, a P1.5 million restrooms will be built that would surely give ease and comfort to tourists, locals and foreigners.

The Ajonay Love Locks project will be put up in a special place anywhere at the Bayview Park where lovers and couples close the locks in a bridge, a fence, statue, or any other installation, then throw away the keys, an act meant to signify endless love and companionship forever.

Meanwhile, as the city has been branded as “City of Faith,” Mayor Nacional Mercado was intent on further developing religious-oriented tourist attractons, the pilgrim sites in Brgy. Hanginan, Monte Cueva, and Jalleca Hills, Abrea further shared. (LDL/MMP with a report from Ritz Jade Royeras, MCNHS intern/PIA Southern Leyte)
