MAASIN CITY (PIA) -- The local government unit here through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) ended the month of March with fitting ceremonies and series of activities to culminate the month-long observance of the National Women's Month.
And two days were reserved, not just one, March 30 and 31, for the many things that have to be done, making sure all bases were covered, literally, in a fulfilling and satisfying task to show the world what women can do.
A parade around the city with women organizations from different barangays started the two-day capping event, followed by a Holy Mass at the Cathedral.
Next was the cutting of ribbon led by Vice Governor Emily Mercado for the opening of booths, where the many livelihood projects and income-generating products of women associations were displayed, like food delicacies, rugs, table-setting decors, etc.
An orientation on women’s rights at the Liga ng mga Barangay conference hall, Government Center in Barangay Combado was also held.
The highlight of the event was the 1990 Hits Dance Contest at the City Public Stage, graced with an inspirational message during the program by Rep. Luz V. Mercado, who gave an additional P10,000 as cash prizes for the contest, City Mayor Nacional Mercado reported in a social media post.
“As a special treat, we also offered free pampering sessions to all LGU-Maasin women employees, including eye check-ups, manicures, pedicures, and massages sponsored by Rep. Luz V. Mercado,” the Mayor said.
“We believe in recognizing and honoring the contributions of our women and empowering them to be their best selves. To all the women, my heartfelt salute!,” Mayor Mercado further said.
The National Women’s Month carried the theme, “WE for Gender Equality and Inclusive Society.” (LDL/MMP/PIA Southern Leyte)
