Gov't info officers' group in Southern Leyte re-organized

MAASIN CITY (PIA) -- For the main purpose of delivering updated information on services, projects, and programs from national government agencies and local government units to the people, the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) initiated a Communicators Network meeting for the Association of Government Information Officers (AGIO) in the province.

The gathering was held at the Liga ng mga Barangay conference hall on March 29, in which more than a dozen information officers (IOs) from national government agencies and some IOs from LGUs attended, including public and private media practitioners, members of the Associated Media of Southern Leyte (AMSL).

Regional head of PIA, Cheryl Amor, also attended the activity as guest speaker, along with Leonilo Lopido, assistant regional head.

Amor explained the felt need of strengthening the province’s communication network through the IOs for a faster and more efficient handling of accurate information on the programs of government by way of the technology on social media sharing, as well as the traditional media on radio broadcast and newspaper publication.

The objective is to reach out to as many people as possible these programs to let them know, in hopes that upon learning what government is doing the citizens can be empowered, enlightened, and be inspired to move towards a better quality of life, Amor explained.

After her short input and an open forum, the election for a new set of leaders followed, and then the chosen ComNet AGIO-Southern Leyte officers took their oaths with Regional Head Amor as the inducting official.

Inducted into office, and the NGAs and LGUs they come from, are the following:

Vice-President: Romulo Carbonilla (PhilHealth)

Secretary: Franchette May Tolibas (DPWH)

Treasurer: Lizlie Ann Ladrera (DOLE)
