MAASIN CITY (PIA) -- The regional director of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in EAstern Visayas on May 26 told police officers to embrace the doctrine of community policing, stressing that police work involved organizing and mobilizing people in the community.
“Civilians are our partners in making the place safe to live, work, and do business. Kasama tayo sa layuning ito, and I look forward for a better Region 8,” Police Brigadier General Vincent Calanoga thundered in his message during the short visit to the Southern Leyte Police Provincial Office - Camp Alfredo K. Bantug.
Calanoga was in the province as guest of honor for the blessing and inauguration of SLPPO’s explosives and canine unit, as well as the groundbreaking for a multi-purpose gym, in which both projects were fully supported by the provincial government.
Upon arrival at SLPPO grounds, he was greeted to a warm, rousing welcome by the men and women in uniform led by PCol. Hector Enage, PNP provincial director.
In his talk, while trying to instill the need for a good rapport with the community, the visiting PNP regional chief also reminded police officers in the field that he will keep an eye on the proper implementation of safety, peace and order plans in their respective localities.
"These plans should be convincing, and based from social investigation, which is measurable, realistic, time-bounded, as people deserve quality, honest service," Calanoga said.
Right after the 6-minute speech, Calanoga paid a courtesy call to Gov. Damian Mercado at the governor's office, then heeded back to SLPPO for the other official functions.
It was raining hard when Calanoga’s party left the governor's office, but the rains failed to stop the purpose of his coming, which was to attend the blessing of a new tactical building and a groundbreaking for a new multi-purpose structure. (LDL/MMP/PIA Southern Leyte)
