BORONGAN CITY (PIA) -- The Provincial Tourism Office (PTO) conducted the Provincial Tourism Meeting on January 31, for the creation of Comprehensive Tourism Development Plan for the province of Eastern Samar attended by some 14 designated Municipal Tourism Officers (MTOs) and stakeholders.
In his message, Provincial Administrator Nelson F. Cortez emphasized the importance of tourism playing a vital role for the economic development of the province. While Eastern Samar is a typhoon destination, the best alternative is to boost tourism industry.
Cortez mentioned the possible tourism attraction in Eastern Samar which include religious tourism, nature, heritage, agricultural tourism, and sports tourism, among others. He further challenged the MTOs to work hard and promote the tourist attractions or destination of their respective municipalities.
Meanwhile, Eastern Samar Provincial Tourism Officer Neil Alejandro A. Pinarok said the province have many tourist destinations, that need promotion to both local and foreign tourists.
Pinarok also emphasized the role of the MTOs to promote or sell their tourist destinations in their respective municipality.
He added that tourism is the best economic driver of every Local Government Unit (LGU) adding that Eastern Samar has already the Sinirangan Tour Program, the Dayaw Tours and Dasig Tours.
The Dayaw Tours include historical sites, religious sites, museums, ruins, and old houses while the Dasig Tours cover areas in culture, nature, art, flora and fauna, culinary, sports, and medicines.
"Each MTOs must have a flagship tourism attraction through "Dayaw and Dasig," Pinarok said.
He further said that once Dayaw and Dasig are in place, see to it that your tourist attractions or destinations are ready to serve for the tourists. (MMP/SDC/PIA Eastern Samar)
