BORONGAN CITY (PIA) -- The local government unit of San Julian, through its Municipal Health Office, kicked off on Tuesday, May 2, the Chikiting Ligtas Healthy Pilipinas Vaccination Campaign to protect children aged 0-59 months against Measles, Rubella, and Polio.
The nationwide month-long Measles Rubella - Oral Polio Vaccine Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-OPV SIA) started with a motorcade around town and concluded in Barangay Pagbabangnan, where a ceremonial vaccination and "patak" took place.
Dr. Marian Epifania Isiderio, Eastern Samar Provincial Health Officer, shared with parents the importance of administering Measles Rubella-Polio Vaccine for the protection of their children, as well as the prevention of a possible outbreak of these vaccine-preventable diseases.
Mayor Dennis P. Estaron, represented by his Private Secretary Dorie Jorgie Estaron, urged all parents to have their children receive the vaccine, citing cooperation as a key ingredient in preventing another disease outbreak such as COVID-19.
"As we all aim for a better, safe, and child-friendly San Julian, let us all work together and make a difference for the love of San Julian," the Mayor added.
Meanwhile, the parents of the vaccinees all received Hygiene Kits from the Provincial Government Office thru Governor Ben P. Evardone.
According to PHN Marie Leigh Nicart, some 106 children were administered with MR-OP vaccine during the said activity and more will be inoculated on the scheduled visit of the Municipal Health Office to all the barangays in the municipality.
All children aged 9-59 months old are eligible to receive the measles-rubella vaccine while children aged 0-59 months old are eligible to receive the oral polio vaccine.
DOH hopes to inoculate 50,000 children in the province of Eastern Samar. (MMP/VTG/PIA E. Samar)
