BORONGAN CITY (PIA) -- Bringing government services closer to the people, Gov. Ben Evardone, along with Vice Governor Maricar Goteesan, the board members, department heads of provincial offices, lawyers of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, and provincial heads of the national government agencies in the province with their staff braved the 2-hour boat ride across the Pacific Ocean from mainland Guiuan to conduct a Serbisyo Caravan in Homonhon Island on March 17.

The activity happened simultaneously in Brgy. Pagbabangnan and Brgy. Casuguran where the residents received medical and dental services, legal services from IBP lawyers, national ID registration by PSA, free seeds from the Department of Agriculture, free haircuts, massage, and pedicure services from TESDA, to mention a few.

In his message, Governor Evardone urged the residents to avail of all the government services brought to them because it is their right to do so.

"We are all here today to cater to all your needs so that you don't need to travel a perilous journey on the sea for several hours back and forth to mainland Guiuan just to ask for seeds from the DA or register for a national ID at PSA," Evardone added.

One of the caravan's beneficiaries, Agripina Lugo, 52, a resident of Brgy. Pagbabangnan, Homonhon Island, was teary-eyed in an interview when asked what services she availed during the caravan.

Nanay Agripina said she availed of manicure and pedicure as well as massage and medical services.

"Damo nga salamat gov han pagkanhi dinhi ha isla, kunta every year na in kay damo talaga an nabubuligan hin nga serbisyo caravan," Nanay Agripina added.

(Thank you so much for coming here to the island, gov, I hope that this serbisyocaravan will be conducted annually so that many people will benefit from it.)

All offices of the national government’s regional line agencies also joined the Serbisyo Caravan. (MMP/VTG/PIA E. Samar)
