TACLOBAN CITY (PIA) -- In celebration of the National Women’s Month, some 49 women-led enterprises selling locally-made products from Biliran, Eastern Samar, Leyte, Northern Samar and Samar are showcasing their products in the ongoing Women’s Trade Fair of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Eastern Visayas which Thursday, March 16 and will run until Sunday, March 19 at the Robinsons Place, Marasbaras, this city.
The four-day trade fair aims to assist women in the region to venture into entrepreneurship and help them earn a living thereby fostering economic development in the country.
“Through these enterprises, women are given employment opportunities to provide income for their families and improve their living. These women also set examples of resilience, strength, creativity and capability to be active contributors to the society,” said Anthea Aivi Borbon Ancheta, DTI regional information officer.
Some of the locally-made products which are being displayed are food items such as peanuts, peanut butter, peanut brittle, roscas, wild honey, chocolate bars, turmeric, sagmani, binagol, coffee,sweet potato, tablea, keseo, salabat, tinapa, coco venigar, chocolate moron, buko pie, and other native delicacies.
There are also leather products, handicrafts, curtains, among others non-food items.
DTI Regional Director Celerina Bato said she is expecting from these women entrepreneurs to generate P2.5 million sales during the 4-day fair.
Said women’s trade fair is the first DTI-initiated trade fair in the region for this year. (MMP/CBA/PIA-8)
