MAASIN CITY (PIA) -- The field office of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in the province has assigned 18 of its personnel from the Planning and Design Section to do an inventory of roads and bridges province-wide.
They were grouped into two teams with nine personnel in each team to check the condition of 94.808-kilometer highway including 49 bridges, the DPWH Southern Leyte Engineering District said in a press statement.
Started in February this year, the inspection teams made use of straight-edge, wedge, measuring wheel, steel tape, and straight-line diagram.
“The annual inspection basically covers all of the district's roads and bridges because this is necessary for allocation of funds. To preserve the integrity of the data, we must ensure that it is carried out in accordance with existing regulations,” District Engineer Manolo Rojas said.
The Road and Bridge Information Application (RBIA) will benefit from the data gathered resulting from the survey, the DPWH press report said.
RBIA is an online system which will provide a new approach in maintaining data on the national road network that will enable users who are connected to the Wide Area Network to receive rapid answers to almost any question related to the road inventory, the report also said.
