DOH-8 challenges Biliran to maintain top rank in vaccination activities

NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) -- The Department of Health Regional Office 8 (DOH-8) has challenged the Biliran Provincial Health Office (BPHO) and the Naval Municipal Health Office (MHO) to maintain its status as the top performing province in the Measles Rubella-Oral Polio Vaccine Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-OPV SIA) and the COVID-19 vaccination in the entire Eastern Visayas region.


During the joint launching of the Biliran PHO and Naval MHO on MR-OPV SIA, Regional Health Promotions Unit head Marvin Jed Soledad, who performed the ceremonial MR “Turok,” challenged the teams to maintain its Rank No. 1 status in the immunization/vaccination activities.


For this year’s MR-OPV SIA, the province of Biliran targets a total of 17,919 children aged 9-59 months old for the Measle Rubella vaccination and 20,815 children aged 0-59 months old for the Oral Polio vaccination, according to Vanessa V. Ramirez, development management officer of DOH-Biliran.


Naval, the capital town of Biliran, where the provincial launching was held, targets to vaccinate 5,707 children for MR shot and 6,628 children for the OPV drop.


Naval Municipal Health Officer Fernando Montejo, informed that their immunization schedules in the 26 barangays of Naval, are as follows: May 2 (launching day) in Brgy. P.I. Garcia and Brgy. Smo. Rosario; May 3 in Brgy. Atipolo; May 4 in Brgy. Calumpang; May 5 in Brgy. Caraycaray; May 8 in Brgy. Larrazabal; May 9 in Brgy. Catmon; May 10 in Brgy. Haguikhikan; May 11 in Brgy. Sto. Nino; May 12 in Brgy. Capinahan; May 15 in Brgy. Villaconsuelo; May 16 in Brgy. San Pablo; May 17 in Brgy. Eamiguel; May 18 in Brgy. Lico and Brgy. Lucsoon; May 19 in barangays Agpangi, Sabang, and Talustusan; May 22 in barangays Libtong and Imelda; May 23 in barangays Cabungaan and Villacaneja; May 24 in barangays Anislagan and Borac; and May 25 in barangays Libertad and Mabini in the island of Higatangan.


The Naval MHO has scheduled mop up immunization on May 26 until May 31 for those who were not available or sick during their scheduled immunization.


MR-OPV SIA is in line with the DOH’s “Chikiting Ligtas” campaign to protect children aged 0-59 months old against preventable diseases like measles, rubella, and polio. (MMP/MLT/PIA Biliran)
