MAASIN CITY (PIA) -- The Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) is offering free training on computer technology at the barangay level, especially to interested officials and rural folks who are willing to learn.
This was disclosed by Rey Noel Collera, DICT provincial officer, in a recent Kapihan sa PIA interview.
Collera said they allot five days in this type of crash-course study complete with tests to measure the participants’ grasp of the lessons taught much like a regular school-based student, and afterwards a certificate of recognition will be given to those who succeeded.
The DICT-led digital literacy training can be availed of by Alternative Learning System students, barangay officials, students in schools, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and other sectors of the community.
Participants are limited to 17 individuals only, because there are only 17 spare computer units that can be used for training available at the DICT provincial office in Brgy. Tagnipa, across Rosa Espina Yniguez Memorial School (REYMS), Collera clarified.
He said anyone who may request for training might as well provide for their own computer so the number of attendees can be increased.
The DICT had conducted digital literacy training in Hinapu Gamay, an upland barangay, in Brgy. Dongon, an interior location, and Brgy. Combado in Maasin City proper, as well as at the Office of Parole and Probation in which parolees were the ones being trained, Collera shared.
Their office remains open for anybody who will request to have digital literacy training, Collera added. (LDL/MMP with reports from Alma Calacat, MCNHS Intern/PIA Southern Leyte)
