SAN RICARDO, Southern Leyte (PIA) -- Reaching 100 years old pays off for Braulia Ligtao, a resident of Brgy. Camang in this municipality, for she stands to receive P180,000 instead of the usual P100,000 as “reward” for living a long life.
On Wednesday, May 17, the provincial government through the Provincial Social Welfare Development Office (PSWDO), gave Nanay Braulia P50,000 as cash incentive for having reached this age on March 20 this year.
The local government unit of San Ricardo likewise handed out P30,000 for a life well lived, being the eldest citizen in the municipality.
In addition to the monetary assistance extended by the LGUs of the town and province, the lone centenarian of San Ricardo stands to get P100,000 from the national government, in line with Republic Act 10868, the Centenarian Act of 2016.
When that moment comes, a total of P180,000 in cold cash shall have landed in her hands.
In a social media post of the provincial government, based on PSWDO records, Nanay Braulia was the very first person to have received the financial payout under the Centenarian Assistance Program of the PLGU.
But more than the prize money, Nanay Braulia’s secret to old age should be everyone’s model, which consisted of eating only organic food such as vegetables and fruits, and a deep faith in the divine. (LDL/MMP/PIA8-Southern Leyte with a report from PLGU)
