BORONGAN CITY (PIA) -- After a three-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Borongan City Division Athletic Association Meet (BCDAAM), the biggest inter-school sports event, in the city reopened to a total of 1,382 student-athletes, coaches, and delegation heads from the five school districts of Borongan.

The said sports event was held on Thursday afternoon, March 23, with a parade from Borongan City Plaza to the Eastern Samar National Comprehensive High School (ESNCHS) oval where an opening ceremony was held.

In his message, Borongan City Schools Division Superintendent Gorgonio G. Diaz Jr. highlighted the importance of conducting sports activities like BCDAAM especially in promoting the values of sports and the overall well-being of the youths.

“Starting today until Saturday, you dear athletes will begin your quest for glory and honor. As you compete with other athletes, always remember, to be magnanimous in victory, and gracious in defeat. You are already winners in your own right,” Diaz said.

Diaz also gave emphasis on the importance of discipline and sportsmanship inside and outside the world of sports.

Meanwhile, the provincial government through the leadership of Governor Ben P. Evardone also extended its support to the said sports activity of the Department of Education by providing P100,000 in financial support to the five schools districts of Borongan.

The money is intended to cover the miscellaneous expenses of student-athletes and coaches during the conduct of the city athletic meet.

The BCDAAM, which was held on March 23-25, served as a screening process wherein the winning players of different sports events will compose the Transformer delegation of the Borongan City Division to the Regional Athletic Meet known as the Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association (EVRAA) Meet which will be held on April.
