NAVAL, Biliran (PIA) -- A total of 275 farmers in the province of Biliran have underwent a 17-day training sessions on proper agricultural practices such as production of high-quality inbred rice, seed certification, and farm mechanization with SofTea Garden, a TESDA-accredited farming school.
The training is a TESDA-funded program with allowance for trainees, according to Imelda Malatbalat, TESDA-Biliran provincial chief.
She said 100 of these trained farmers came from barangays Haguikhican, Lico, Capiñahan, and Imelda of Naval town; 50 from barangays Villa Cornejo and Ungale of Kawayan; 75 from barangays Marvel, Binohangan and Binongtoan of Culaba; and 50 from barangays Looc and Sampao of Almeria.
An additional 75 slots at 25 farmers per barangay are currently undergoing the same training from barangays Union and Binohangan of Caibiran, and Barangay Villa Enage of Biliran town, Malatbalat added.
Meanwhile, Naval Mayor Gretchen Stephanie Espina commited the local government unit’s support to the 100 farmers from Naval who received their certificates in a culmination program on November 22 at the Naval gymnasium.
She expressed hopes of these farmers to be the LGU’s partners in economic progress particularly in feeding the community with cheaper and quality rice.
Julia T. Sandiford, Biliran provincial agriculturist, and Dandellion C. Amper, DA8-APCO for Biliran and Leyte District 3, graced the occasion in support to the government’s food security program.
Aside from Production of High-quality Inbred Rice, Seed Certification, and Farm Mechanization, SofTea Garden also offers Organic Agriculture Production NCII. Next year, Agri Crops Production NCII is set for implementation, said Fe Sombise, SofTea Garden Farm School administrator who recently received the 2022 Regional Idol Ng TESDA Award.
Sofia Trani owns SofTea Garden registered in 2018 with the Department of Trade and Industry as learning site of ATI-RTC 08 and accredited with TESDA in 2019 as farming school.
Aside from SofTea Garden, other TESDA technology institutions offering agricultural trainings include the Cabucgayan National School of Arts and Trade, Biliran Provincial Training Center, and Canaan Hills Farm.
