BORONGAN CITY (PIA) -- Some 500 students, who are recipients of the scholarship program of the Provincial Government of Eastern Samar, are now enrolled in the different campuses of Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) for the second semester School Year 2023-2024, this is according to Isang Propesyonal, Isang Pamilya Program (IPIPP) focal person Emmanuel Arago.
Arago said these scholars will receive a monthly allowance of P3,000 from the provincial government.
He also reminded the scholars who are "underloaded" to fully enroll the maximum load requirement of their course so that they can graduate earlier.
"All scholars will recontract or renew every semester," Arago said.
The focal person disclosed that there were new applicants added from the 405 scholars last year.
The new applicants are residents of interior and far-flung barangays classified as Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Area (GIDA), as identified by the Provincial Poverty Alleviation Team (PPAT).
"The good news is that there are additional seven barangays included in this program for this semester," Arago said.
The new barangays that are included are: two (2) from San Policarpo, two (2) from Maslog, two (2) from Balangiga, and one (1) from Salcedo.
The main purpose of the program is to provide educational assistance to one son or daughter from every family in the province to graduate a four-year course so that he or she can help their siblings and eventually alleviate the economic status of their family. (MMP/SDC/PIA - E. Samar)
