TACLOBAN CITY (PIA) -- Some 48 couples, who are all personnel of the Police Regional Office 8 exchanged vows during the mass wedding dubbed as “Kasalang Pulis Sa Rehiyon Otso” at the Sto. Niño Church, Tacloban City on Wednesday, June 14.
The mass wedding, officiated by Archbishop John F. Du of the Archdiocese of Palo, was initiated by former PRO-8 Regional Director Police Brigadier General Rommel Francisco D. Marbil, now acting director of the PNP Comptrollership, and supported by the new PRO-8 Regional Director, PBGen. Vincent S. Calanoga, and other PNP officials in the region.
PBGen. Calanoga and his wife Alexa Christie C. Calanoga, PBGen. Marbil, PCol. Veronica T. Agustin, and PLt. Col. Catherine DC Dalmacia, served as principal sponsors.
The couples have been living together for years without the benefit of the sacrament of matrimony -- the most number of years is 10 years.
In his homily, Archbishop Du emphasized the reasons why the newly-wed couples decided to come before the altar of God as he reminded them that said day is not only a day of fulfillment but also a day of commitment which is forever.
“Always remember, love is the reason why you would like to have your marriage blessed, love brought you in front of the altar of the Lord here in Sto. Niño Church. This is a special day because as you come before the altar of our Lord, you are going to seal your love of God and allow yourself that the Lord to be a part of your marriage. After how many years and months of being together, you have now decided to seal your love with each other,” Du said.
In addition, Archbishop Du also reminded the newly-wed couples that it is easy to love but it’s hard to remain in love, and to remain in love with each other is to put God first as the center of the married life.
As the archbishop congratulated the couples, he urged the wives to understand the heavy responsibility of police officers and to refrain from being hysterical when jealousy occurs and learn to talk to husband in a nice way.
He also reminded the police officers to treat their wives with care and give them the special attention they need so that love dwells in the relationship.
As the police officials congratulated the newly-wed couples, Calanoga reminded the spouses of the police officers that their husbands’ duty and commitment to serve the public are extended to them.
“Now that you are married to a police officer, you are part of your partner’s police life which means responsibilities and sacrifices are included in the name of public service,” Calanoga said.
Other wedding sponsors include House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, Tingog Party-list Representative Yedda Marie K. Romualdez, Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez, and members of the PRO-8 Command Group and its Regional Staff. (MMP/CBA with reports from PRO-8)
