BORONGAN CITY -- Some cases of psychological problems had been reported to the offices of many Punong Barangays (PBs) of the City, though none of them have the knowledge and skill nor had they been trained to handle such kind of health problem.

Thus, it is their wish that Mental Health Care Program be included in the services of the upcoming Borongan City Infirmary.

This was according to Barangay Maypangdan PB Florita C. Cabato, who said that at times, she finds it challenging to receive in her office individuals who are mentally disturbed because she could only do so much, and “it feels like frustrating when you cannot do more to help the person,” she said.

“Thus, we have raised the issue in one of our Liga meetings that the care for mental health, should be included in the services of the City Infirmary when it soon starts operation,”

Cabato said.

Sta. Fe PB Karen Afable informed further, that, quite a number of teenagers have already talked to her about mental health, revealing their wish further, to have a proper avenue where they can open up some personal problems to a professional because sometimes, unleashed mental burdens lead to mental issues.

“Mental health is just as important as our physical health, but it is mostly neglected, in effect a person/individual who is suffering such illness is mistaken to be 'nag-iinarte' and worse, is being discriminated. This usually happens in our youth nowadays, thus, they opt to be silent due to lack of a fitting clinic,”

Karen said.

For his part, PB William Azul of Brgy. Locsoon expressed his wish that certain appropriate drugs would be available for his people, because oftentimes, the drug can still help the patient, when there is one reported.

“Ha am ha Locso-on, malooy an Diyos, kaya pa man hit medisina ngin myda sugad nga problema. Diri man pirmi nga nasusugad, mayda la panahon.”

(In my barangay Locso-on, thanks God, the medicine can still cure the patient whenever we have.)

Cabato said further that the Liga ng mga Punong Barangays as agreed in their recent conference, is soon coming up with the endorsement to DOH for the opening and operationalization of the 50-bed City hospital because, the Liga affirms the LGU's notion that it is highly relevant to the health and well-being of Boronganons, she said.

Meanwhile, City Mayor Dayan Agda, supported by Vice Mayor Emman Tiu Sonco with the full force of the Sangguniang Panglungsod members, remains steadfast in pushing his one major agenda to establish a well-equipped City Health facility for his people.
