NAVAL, Biliran -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) - Biliran District Engineering Office (DEO) under the leadership of District Engineer Ferdinand A. Briones hosted the Regional Monthly Coordination Meeting held at Lothesa’s Place in Naval, Biliran, July 6.
On behalf of District Engineer Briones, Assistant District Engineer Alfredo L. Bollido gave a warm welcome message as the host district of the regional meeting, highlighting the accomplishments of the district office.
The monthly assembly was spearheaded by DPWH-8 Regional Director Allan S. Borromeo and Assistant Regional Director David P. Adongay Jr., together with the DPWH-8 key officials and district engineers of the region.
During the meeting, Borromeo reiterated some policy instructions from the new DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan.
Borromeo highlighted that the new secretary wants DEOs to re-evaluate its 2023 project proposals.
According to the regional director, Secretary Bonoan orders to prioritize projects that is doable and will not cause problem during the project implementation such as on Road-Right of-Way (RROW).
Borromeo explained that the Secretary was alarmed of the unobligated budget because of the still ongoing projects from the previous year/carry-over projects.
“So with this, kailangan nating tutukan muli kung ano ang mga projects na dapat natin i-introduce to be proposed for 2023,”
said Borromeo.
Borromeo also emphasized the Secretary’s instruction to give priority on the continuing projects such as the widening of bridges.
According to Borromeo, roads are useless without the connectivity of the bridges.
“Tingnan ang mga bridges and as much as possible i-widen na (yung mga bridges) for those road section na may proposed na maging four lanes or six lanes,”
he said.
During the meeting, Assistant Regional Director Bollido also took the opportunity to query on the status of the Catmon Bridge in Naval which is under the DPWH-8 implementation.
According to the regional director, Catmon Bridge was not abandoned and is still worked by the contractor.
“I believe and I am confident na it can be completed within the year kasi tapos na ang foundation, sa girder na lang, matapos lang yung girder, then slab, tapos na,”
said Borromeo.
“Major activity nyan is the launching of girder and nandoon na, we just have to transport it,”
he added.
During the meeting, Borromeo also commended the Top 3 performing DEOs in terms of physical (construction stage) accomplishment. These are Leyte 3rd DEO ranking 1st with an accomplishment of 61.33%, Leyte 2nd DEO with 55.15%, and Biliran DEO with 53.75% accomplishment.
Updates on financial status and other matters were also discussed during the meeting.
The said meeting is a monthly activity of the DPWH regional and district key officials to tackle various issues and concerns in order to provide quality public service and infrastructures to the public.
As the host district, DPWH-BDEO also showcased the different tourism destinations of the province through an Audio-Visual Presentation (AVP), souvenir t-shirts, and delicacies of the province.
Borromeo commended BDEO not only for successfully hosting the Regional Monthly Coordination Meeting but also for the good roads under their jurisdiction.
